LVC Board of Directors
Jeff Yamada is a financial planner living with his three children and an assortment of pets in Norman, Oklahoma. He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and comes from a family of inadvertent social activists. His mother’s family descended from Quakers who came to Pennsylvania in the 17th century, and his father’s family was interned in US concentration camps during World War II, even though they were all US citizens (and his grandfather a WWI US Army veteran). When he was born, his parents’ marriage was illegal in several states, and his mother was not allowed to travel with his father on business trips to the South. With this background, Jeff was thrilled to join a service corps that unites people to work for peace and justice, and especially one that stresses the Journey to an Inclusive Community as a core value.
Jeff’s professional background includes associations with Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) in Zurich and New York City, and serving as the chief compliance officer and director of operations for fee-only institutional fixed-income investment advisers in Los Angeles. For the last ten years, Jeff has used his financial planning knowledge to help his clients answer the financial questions that might otherwise keep them up at night.
Jeff received his MBA in international finance from St. John’s University in New York in 1994 and his B.A. in international business and German from California State University, Fullerton, in 1989. Jeff earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification in 2007 and became a member of the fee-only National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) in 2009.
Raised in Orange County, California, Jeff has lived and worked in Zurich, Switzerland; New York City; Los Angeles; Eugene (Oregon), Norman (Oklahoma) and Suriname. An avid traveler, he is fluent in German and Sranan Tongo and speaks some French and Dutch. Jeff is happiest pursuing outdoor activities with his three teenagers.
