Volunteer Spotlight: Crystal Specht, Thurgood Marshall Academy

Volunteer Spotlight: Crystal Specht, Thurgood Marshall Academy

Current Washington D.C. LVCer Crystal Specht is working as the Programs Associate at Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA). Crystal lives in the Dag Hammarskjold House.

Crystal says that serving with LVC has allowed her to be an advocate for educational equality: “I’m incredibly glad that I chose to do a service year with Lutheran Volunteer Corps after graduating college. Serving at TMA has been interesting and challenging. I enjoy working with and learning from the students at the school, and it’s been very fulfilling to have such a direct role in facilitating positive experiences for them after school every day. After LVC, I intend to seek out work that is just as meaningful as serving at TMA has been this year. I love knowing that every day I am able to further a cause that I believe in—educational equality in the United States.”

Crystal is a graduate of Muhlenberg College and is from Wilmington, Delaware.
