Each year, Lutheran Volunteer Corps matches approximately 50 full time Volunteers with social justice non-profit organizations in our program cities across the U.S. The directory below provides a SAMPLE list of placement positions for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 program years.  About 80% of LVC partner organizations re-apply each year; and in addition, we will have new positions that are not yet on the list.

To have the widest choice of positions, apply by our Round 1 January 15th deadline. There are significantly fewer positions available for the Round 2 April 1st deadline.

Organization Description
Redeemer Center for Life was formed in 1999 with a survey of the neighborhood, led by Redeemer Lutheran Congregation, assessing the needs of Harrison residents. Identified was an increased need for programming and services for children and families to combat the poverty with affordable housing, after-school activities for children and increased employment. In 1999, Redeemer Center for Life, Inc. became a non-profit with the specific mission to be a beacon of hope to residents of the Harrison Neighborhood.

The organization’s strategic plan is to be responsive to the community by addressing specific neighborhood needs of housing, out of school activities, and employment. OUR GOALS are to:• Create a place of safety and belonging, •Promote health and equity in neighborhood supporting opportunities for employment and training. •Provide opportunities for residents to experience the fulfillment of their potential.
Position Description

In this position, the Volunteer will work with the Communications Director to support general administration and communications at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Volunteer will be at the heart of daily life in this vibrant spiritual community. Their desk in the main office will allow them frequent interaction with fellow staff, community members, and volunteers. Daily tasks will include answering phone calls, responding to emails, and coordinating the church calendar. Each week, the Volunteer will also publish a bulletin and send out announcements. Through this work, they will play a central role in event planning and community organizing at the church.

The Volunteer will team with the Communications Director to update content on the church website and Facebook pages. At Redeemer, storytelling plays a central role in our communications and so the Volunteer will have the opportunity to explore different forms of media including photography, videography, and journalistic writing to help tell the story of Redeemer and its people. Other tasks will include designing brochures, flyers, and the monthly church newsletter.

The Volunteer will be part of a collaborative work environment where they will participate in weekly communication team meetings. They will be supported to bring new ideas and creativity to the team as well as focus on particular areas that interest them.

Combating racism, inequity and gentrification is central to the work of this church. The Volunteer will be encouraged to dive into existing efforts and, if they feel moved, launch new ones.

Altogether, this is an engaging and diverse position that will allow ample opportunity to learn new skills, be creative, and connect deeply with the Redeemer community.
