Position: Ministry Assistant – All Peoples Church
Organization Description: All Peoples Church began as a new mission start of the ELCA in 1991. It is one of the rare occasions the ELCA has started a church in the central city. In our short history, we have grown to one of the largest predominantly African American congregations in the ELCA. Our mission statement is: 'Let the glory of the LORD rise among All Peoples.' We live out this vision of glory rising through commitments to Spirit-filed worship, radical hospitality and welcome, dedication to youth ministry, and an emerging focus on Health and Wellness ministry. Those that gather at All Peoples ' for worship or programs ' reflect the diversity of our name. Our neighborhood is predominantly African American, though we also reach individuals and families of Latino (mostly Puerto Rican) and European American backgrounds. While 80% of the All Peoples community live at or below the poverty level, we also reach middle class individuals and a variety of educational backgrounds. We have a stated commitment to be open and welcoming to all people including all sexual and gender identities.
Position Description: The ministry assistant works with all aspects of congregational life. The primary focus of work is centered around our cross-generational ministries and specific youth programs. This includes supporting our year-round work ministry program Kids Working To Succeed (KWTS). KWTS engages youth in garden work in our community garden and greenhouse to fulfill the programs three priorities: to make disciples; instill a strong work ethic; and cultivate Christian stewardship. The ministry assistant will also engage in our high school and young adult ministries, worship leadership and our food justice work including food security for individuals and families living in poverty.
