The Education Support Assistant will provide educational support and advocacy to school-aged children and youth in order to promote academic success, literacy and engagement in positive out-of-school time activities.
The Education Support Program is provided for pre-K - 6th grade students living at Passage Community, a site-based transitional housing program for previously homeless families. The Volunteer will help coordinate an intensive after-school literacy program, writing individualized lesson plans designed to help students move closer to grade level proficiency. The lessons are implemented by volunteers and the LVC volunteer will be present to give guidance when needed.
The LVC Volunteer will also be involved in planning and chaperoning weekend outings for the students. These outings might be to the Zoo, Science Museum, Children's Theater or other enrichment outings in the community.
The LVC Volunteer will also be involved in supporting other academic needs of the students including monitoring grades and attendance, providing student support at school, transporting parents to school meetings and/or attending school events.
