Protest, Arrest and Process: PROCESS

Ahna is a current LVCer in Washington, DC, serving at the Government Accountability Project. This is her story of and reflections on her experiences related to the Kavanaugh hearing and accompanying protests. This is post 3 of 3; her first post is here; second is here. ~~~~~ On October 6th, 2018 I was arrested on the steps of the Capitol. I was protesting the imminent confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. When people found out, they asked what being arrested is like. They asked with a gleam in their eyes, a smile forming on their lips, and a palpable anticipation for the badass protest storyRead More →

Protest, Arrest and Process: ARREST

Ahna is a current LVCer in Washington, DC, serving at the Government Accountability Project. This is her story of and reflections on her experiences related to the Kavanaugh hearing and accompanying protests. This is post 2 of 3; her first post is here. ~~~~~ SATURDAY OCTOBER 6th 8:00AM When I woke up, I knew Brett Kavanaugh would be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice. I knew I was going to protest. I did not know I would be arrested. 8:30AM My roommate, Leora, and I paced from the kitchen to the entryway filling water bottles, packing snacks, and gathering signs for the protest. Picking up a Trader Joe’sRead More →

Protest, Arrest and Process: PROTEST

Ahna is a current LVCer in Washington, DC, serving at the Government Accountability Project. This is her story of and reflections on her experiences related to the Kavanaugh hearing and accompanying protests. This is post 1 of 3. ~~~~~ SEPTEMBER 27th I went to a protest. That morning I had sat in my cubicle, watching Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as she read her statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee. She answered questions about her memory, her fear of flying, and the assault she had survived. Her poise was that of an academic; one who had passed her dissertation defense by calmly answering questions and keeping her wits aboutRead More →

Junia: Two Programs, One Home

My name is Ahna, and I live in one of the D. C. houses: Junia. It is located in the Petworth neighborhood and it is called home by three Lutheran Volunteers and three Loretto Volunteers. For those of you who don’t know, the Loretto Volunteer Corps is an Catholic volunteer organization. They are a group of spunky feminists who focus on spirituality, sustainability, and social justice. This is the first year where the two programs have come together to share a house, and I feel remarkably lucky to be a part of it. There is no way I can capture everything that has happened forRead More →

Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC)
The impact of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps is made possible through a powerful partnership among placement organizations, dedicated fellows, and generous supporters. Our placement partners are mentors and collaborators who provide fellows with opportunities to engage in meaningful work. Fellows bring energy and fresh perspective to their roles. At the heart of LVC, the fellows choose to live intentionally, serve wholeheartedly, and grow spiritually and personally throughout their year. Their courage to step into unfamiliar spaces, embrace challenge, and live out their values inspires transformation. The guidance and support they receive help them deepen their understanding of service.None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our donors, who help us sustain meaningful change. Your generosity ensures that this work continues. Together, we are building a stronger community every year.Apply Here to Become a Fellow>>> lutheranvolunteercorps.org/the-program/#Apply Here to Become a Placement Partner >>> lutheranvolunteercorps.org/the-program/# ...
