Each year, Lutheran Volunteer Corps matches approximately 50 full time Volunteers with social justice non-profit organizations in our program cities across the U.S. The directory below provides a SAMPLE list of placement positions for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 program years.  About 80% of LVC partner organizations re-apply each year; and in addition, we will have new positions that are not yet on the list.

To have the widest choice of positions, apply by our Round 1 January 15th deadline. There are significantly fewer positions available for the Round 2 April 1st deadline.

Organization Description
AGENCY MISSION—Our mission is transforming lives impacted by domestic violence. In support of this mission, our goal is to greatly reduce domestic violence in the city of Milwaukee by offering support and services to all who are affected--victims, perpetrators and children who witness it. AGENCY HISTORY—The Sojourner Family Peace Center is the largest Domestic Abuse service provider in the state of Wisconsin and provides services to the entire Milwaukee County area. We are a private, non-profit organization whose wide array of confidential services are provided to both victims and perpetrators of family violence, as well as their children. Nearly all services are provided free-of-charge, with the exception of those that are court ordered for offenders of domestic abuse. We serve women, men and children of all races, all ethnicities, all ages, all sexual orientations and all spiritual backgrounds. Services are available in English, Spanish, Russian and Hmong; interpreters are provided for any clients speaking languages other than those already provided and/or for those needing additional translation services. The services of our agency have been provided to our community for more than forty years.
Position Description

This position will work within the Milwaukee County Restraining Order Clinic to provide services, support and assistance to domestic violence victims from diverse backgrounds. The Systems Based advocate will work to help clients understand and navigate the civil and criminal court systems processes, explore their options and rights when utilizing these systems, develop safety plans and access needed community resources. This includes, but is not limited to, providing legal advocacy to victims of domestic abuse, harassment, individuals at risk and child abuse seeking temporary restraining orders and injunctions, and accompanying clients to legal proceedings as necessary.
