LVC16 Volunteer Spotlight: Maryl Fennie

Maryl Fennie is a current Twin Cities Volunteer living in Wellstone House. She’s serving this year as the Pro Bono Coordinator at the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. She shares, “I chose to do LVC because it provided a valuable opportunity to gain work experience. I also appreciated the intentional community, an organization based in spirituality and living simply and sustainably. Bay Area LVCer Eleanor Nolan is working for the Disability Rights and Education Defense Fund in Berkeley, California. This photo is Eleanor at a protest event to raise awareness for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Milwaukee LVCer Hannah Uitenbroek is working at All Peoples Church as their Food Justice Organizer. Hannah shares the following about her year: “Working as the Food Justice Organizer at All Peoples Church, I have had the privilege of entering into a church community and the community of Milwaukee. I was dealing with my own anxiety and depression. At the church, the gospel music struck my heart and soul and people were kind to the new person that was assigned to them for a year. Current Baltimore LVCer Marisa Tillman is working at the World ReliefBaltimore Immigration Clinic. Marisa lives in Simunye House. Following her LVC year, Marisa hopes to go to law school and become an immigration lawyer. “The community that I’m serving now as a legal assistant at an immigration legal clinic are the vulnerable populations that I plan to serve once I have completed law school. Volunteer Spotlight: Crystal Specht, Thurgood Marshall Academy

Current Washington D.C. LVCer Crystal Specht is working as the Programs Associate at Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA). Crystal lives in the Dag Hammarskjold House.
