LVC is pleased to announce the option to select shorter terms of volunteering, starting in 2020! In addition to it’s legacy program — the Year of Service — LVC will offer semesters for FALL:August-December, SPRING:January-May, and SUMMER:June-August.
Our nonprofit partners will now have the option of securing a Volunteer for a long-term position for one year; or shorter-term service projects that last from three to five months.
Volunteers will have a different experience with the Flex Semester. It allows Volunteers to serve where they live (they won’t be sent to a new city but will serve in DC, Baltimore, Omaha, Twin Cities, Wilmington, or the Chicago test site); it’s generally a commuter program without housing provided so Volunteers won’t live together (housing may be provided based on availability); intentional community shows up as planned weekly meetings with local peers; orientation is local instead of national; and Volunteers have local alumni “advisors” instead of community and spirituality mentors.
Flex semester Volunteers will still be matched with a social justice partner for full-time volunteer service; and participate with year-Volunteers in monthly and other learning series activities to bring together academic and practical social justice experiences with real-world contemporary issue discussions.
