LVC launched new ways to serve in 2020. In addition to its legacy program — the in-person Year of Service — Fellows can serve virtually from home or LVC housing, for full-year or half-year, or other flexible arrangement agreed to with a Placement. Kaydee Kirk (’98-’99) and Peter Spuit (’99-’00) are two Lutheran Volunteer Corps alumni who live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Current Chicago LVCer Marit Johnson is serving this year in the ELCA Churchwide Office, Chicago Office as the Justice for Women Program Assistant. Living in intentional community can be one of the most rewarding and challenging parts of an LVC year. “You can do it! You can do it!” The encouragement pulsed through the crowd as a young woman pulled herself up onto a signpost above the heaving throngs. Successful, she reached into her knapsack and removed a black camera from within. Flushed with her acrobatic effort she carefully wedged herself up against the pole and pointed her camera at the exuberant crowd and snapped picture after picture.
