Partner Focus: Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church

LVC has been working on its Capital Campaign to purchase the Dorothy Day Volunteer House for quite some time now. The campaign is well on its way to be completed and the purchase and sale agreement was signed just last week! Part of LVC’s excitement in finishing the Dorothy Day House Campaign is what it will mean for its partners in Milwaukee, specifically Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church, who has been a faithful partner in the Milwaukee community.   The Dorothy Day House is actually the Spirit of Peace parsonage, and LVC has rented it from the church for its Volunteer housing for many years. This rental agreement has notRead More →

#decolonizelutheranism

It’s been a while since we posted an LVC update! We’ve been in the thick of Round 2 matching, and tending to our Round 3 rolling application deadline. If you know someone still figuring out their next steps – please let us know (especially if they speak Spanish!) We want to make sure that our LVC community knows about an important conversation and movement taking place within the ELCA – the #decolonizelutheranism movement. LVC’s Journey to an Inclusive Community (JIC) aligns well with the issues raised and goals of this movement. LVC’s JIC is an ongoing process of forming and strengthening alliances among people of many culturesRead More →

Reflections of an LVC Second Year Volunteer

Amanda Kirsch is a Second Year LVC Volunteer in Washington, DC. She has spent both of her years in Washington serving at Brainfood, a youth-development organization that uses cooking a food as tools to promote healthy living in a safe environment. Below, Amanda shares her reflections after almost two years of living in intentional community, journeying to an inclusive community, and serving at Brainfood.   Like many Volunteers, I came to LVC as a recent college graduate ready to discover. My college experience had challenged me to integrate my faith and learning and to seek ways to live and work accordingly. With a mission toRead More →

Dorothy Day House Capital Campaign

“We have all known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community.” -Dorothy Day   The Lutheran Volunteer Corps seeks to purchase its Volunteer House, the Dorothy Day House, in Milwaukee. LVC has been present in the Milwaukee community for many years, and each year LVC Volunteers live and serve together in Milwaukee non-profits that provide food for the poor, youth education, healthcare to those in need, and green spaces for public use in the city.   Over the years, LVC has placed 150 Volunteers in organizations including the Bread of Healing Clinic, Shalom HighRead More →

Celebrating the Work Unseen

Seven years ago, Lutheran Volunteer Corps merged with the Lutheran Service Corps (LSC) in Omaha, Nebraska in order to help LSC serve more Omaha nonprofits through its Volunteer service program. This year, nine talented Volunteers live together in Hillstrom House and serve the Omaha community. Sitara Mahtani, who serves at NAMI Nebraska, a mental health advocacy organization, first heard about LVC from a friend who served in Wilmington, DE. Though a bit hesitant to participate because she is not a Christian, Sitara ultimately decided to apply for LVC because of her friend’s experience of openness and inclusion during her Volunteer year. Sitara, a graduate ofRead More →

Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC)
Every year, Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) places passionate, service-driven young adults into full-time roles at nonprofits nationwide. They work in housing justice, refugee support, healthcare access, and more. They live on a super tight budget, share housing, and commit to a year of hard, meaningful work that many others aren’t willing to do.Your donation pays for the housing, transportation, healthcare, and training that allow these volunteers to show up every day and do the work that keeps nonprofits running and communities supported. Without this backing, these critical roles go unfilled. This means that fewer people are served, fewer needs are met, and fewer leaders are developed for long-term impact. If you care about justice, this is one of the most efficient ways to make a difference: fund the people doing the work.Your support makes the service sustainable. Your donation creates impact now and leadership for the future. Give today, we need and appreciate your funding. ... See MoreSee Less
