Anti-Racism

Just Speak 2016 – Part 1

We were excited to hold a Just Speak! event again at this year’s national orientation. This is a chance for church and community leaders to encourage, inspire and challenge our incoming Volunteers as they start their year seeking peace with justice. The first speaker was Rev. Dr. Reggie Williams, Assistant Professor of Christian Ethics at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. Dr. Williams dug in to understanding what racism is, and is not, with plenty of time for Q&A at the end. For more from Dr. Williams, check out his recently published book Bonhoeffer’s Black Jesus: Harlem Renaissance Theology and an Ethic of Resistance (Baylor University Press,Read More →

Great day in history!Today we celebrate the anniversary of Lutheran women’s ordination! On Nov. 22, 1970, the Rev. Elizabeth Platz was ordained by the Lutheran Church in America, one of the ELCA's predecessor church bodies. A month later the Rev. Barbara Andrews was ordained by the American Lutheran Church, another ELCA predecessor. We give thanks for the leadership, ministry and gifts of women who have served the church throughout history, and for those women who endured the hardships and work leading to the ordination of women. For all the faithful women, we give God thanks and praise! ... See MoreSee Less
